Power with Protection with Non-Ablative Fractional Laser
Nonablative Fractional Laser represents one of the major advances in dermatology over the last decade because of its power to not only rejuvenate the skin but also treat acne, acne scars, melasma (hyperpigmentation), and many other issues. If you have more than one skin concern, a non-ablative laser might be the perfect treatment for you.
The laser delivers heat to the skin through thousands of tiny, deep columns, which tightens skin and coaxes it to produce more collagen. The tightening and collagen production together reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. More than that, the heat delivered into the skin breaks up pools of old pigmented cells to give you a more even skin tone.
Why Non-Ablative Fractional Laser?
There’s no doubt that lasers are some of the most valuable tools a dermatologist can use to rejuvenate skin. All lasers use amplified light energy, but not all lasers use it the same way. Ablative lasers, for instance, use a light wavelength that causes the water in tissue to evaporate (ablate) and removes the top layer of skin.
A non-ablative fractional laser, like the one we use, fractures the light energy into narrow channels so only portions of the skin receive the energy. It doesn’t remove the top layer of skin and heats the skin in a more controlled manner than an ablative laser. This leaves the skin less damaged and requires less healing than traditional laser resurfacing lasers do.
Non-Ablative Laser FAQ’s
This treatment is slightly uncomfortable. To prepare the skin, we use a numbing cream and we keep the skin cool with a machine that blows cold air on the treatment area. Our practitioners are attuned to the patient’s comfort and can modify the treatment to make it more comfortable.
There is no downtime. You may notice some redness. We recommend you wear sunscreen after the treatment to protect your skin. Sunscreen, in general, is a great way to protect all the heroic work you do to take care of your skin.
For optimal results we recommend 3 – 6 treatments at 2 – 3-month intervals.
