Facial Hair

Remove Unwanted Hair Permanently

Facial hair and the removal of it (or not) is a very sensitive subject, not just emotionally but also physically. The skin on your face is more delicate than the skin on your legs or underarms, so it is important to select the appropriate facial hair-removal option.

What causes facial hair?

We all have some facial hair. And for some it can be so pale and fine we don’t notice it. For others, it grows darker and thicker, and in places we wish it wouldn’t grow.

Where we grow hair and what it looks like is partly genetic, but can also signify an underlying issue, like a hormone imbalance. Hirsutism, for instance, is a condition where women grow excessive dark, coarse hair in the places where men typically grow hair. The cause is an excess of male hormones called androgens.

Beyond that, skin tone and hair type is another consideration when treating unwanted hair. At Lutétia Clinic, we use the most advanced lasers that work on both dark and light skin. For hair that the laser can’t remove, we can use another laser to bleach, making it invisible for several weeks at a time. Electrolysis is also an option for any skin type and any hair type. Though it works best on small areas.

Lutetia skin experts understand the complexity of your skin and consider your unique case before suggesting a treatment option. A consultation will determine the best course of treatment.

Treatment areas include

  • Dark hairs on your upper lip
  • Soft light hair on your cheeks
  • Hair between your eyebrows
  • Stray hairs on your chin
  • For men, hair outside of the beard area
  • Unwanted hair on your neck of below your hairline

How can I treat unwanted facial hair?

Shaving, waxing, plucking and threading are the most common methods. Though they are time-consuming and painful and if you have sensitive skin tend to leave evidence, like bumps or even ingrown hairs. If the point of hair removal is to reveal smooth silky skin, then one of our skin specialists can discuss our treatment options with you.

Electrolysis

Unlike laser treatments, electrolysis can be used on anyone regardless of skin or hair color, because it attacks cells within the hair follicle instead of pigment. During electrolysis, a tiny needle is inserted into the individual hair follicle and a low-level electrical pulse is sent into the follicle to destroy it. The procedure takes longer than some other methods of hair removal, but the results are very good.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal works by targeting hair follicles (during their active growth phase) with a concentrated beam of light. The pigment in the follicles absorbs the light and this destroys the hair.
